FiiO is betting on physical media once again with the launch of the FiiO DP11, a desktop CD player designed to take a prominent place in audio systems. The idea goes beyond simply playing discs: the unit combines digital transport, an integrated DAC, and features aimed both at those who still maintain a CD collection and those who want to integrate physical media into a modern setup.
The DP11 features a CS43198 DAC, along with CD ripping support and MQA source output. The unit can also work as a dedicated transport, offering AES, coaxial, and optical digital outputs.
A CD mechanism focused on silence
One of the project's main highlights is the CD mechanism developed by FiiO itself. The company uses a desktop-grade drive paired with a servo program specifically optimized to improve reading accuracy.
To further reduce mechanical noise, the DP11 uses a specially designed support for the mechanism. According to FiiO, the solution is intended to provide smooth disc loading and extremely quiet operation, preventing drive noise from interfering with playback.
Digital transport or full CD player?
Although it can operate as a dedicated transport, the DP11 also has everything needed to feed an analog chain directly. The CS43198 handles digital-to-analog conversion, while the RCA outputs feature a preamplification function.
In practice, this makes it possible to connect the unit directly to active speakers or a power amplifier, greatly expanding its possibilities in desktop setups.
Direct WAV ripping
Another interesting feature is the ability to back up your own CDs without having to use a computer. The DP11 can extract tracks directly to a USB-connected flash drive, saving the content as high-definition lossless WAV.
The unit also offers MQA source output, intended for high-resolution files and sources compatible with the format.
Circuitry inspired by the FiiO S15
FiiO also drew on elements from its high-end desktop lineup during the DP11's development. According to the company, the project uses the same circuit concept employed in the FiiO S15 Streamer.
Another important point is the power supply. The DP11 uses independent power supplies for the CD mechanism, digital processing, and analog audio circuits. The goal is to reduce electrical interference between these different stages and preserve signal integrity.
With this combination, the FiiO DP11 aims to put CDs back at the center of a Hi-Fi system without giving up more modern features. It can work both as a dedicated digital transport and as a complete CD player with an integrated DAC and silent playback.
